Many people over hundreds of years have discussed and studied the existence of a thing called astral projection. Remote viewing is just another name for the phenomenon and most notably brought about in 1970 when the CIA began researching into astral projection and the possibilities of its use for obtaining information surreptitiously. Not much further information is available of exactly what the CIA found but many people, 14% of the population in fact, claim to have experienced an out of body experience.

It is said that 1 in 10 people have an out of body experience at some point in their lives. An out of body experience is an experience of floating outside of one’s own body and often having the ability to look down upon their body while it is either worked on by doctors(near death experience) or while sleeping. It is said that during a near death experience one often becomes profoundly aware of their own mortality and the connection between a spirit world and the physical world. The term out of body experience was first introduced by G. N. M. Tyrell in his book, Apparitions. The difference between a astral projection and a near death experience is in the fact that you are consciously attempting to induce an astral projection through meditation rather then experiencing a traumatic event.

Once an astral projection is induced you leave your body behind and depending on your level of concentration, you are able to travel the universe. Speculation suggests there are many types of astral plane navigation such as, simply picturing a place and then being there, or actually flying to it as if a spirit.

There are many products and theories out there which allow you to induce an astral projection more easily. The ability to astral project is a learned ability, it takes practice. Once you have successfully experienced an astral projection though it is said you have a much simpler time at inducing another.

There are many reported benefits to astral projection which have sustained many peoples curiosity into the subject for centuries. Spiritual questions which cannot be answered here in the physical world seems to be the top reason for the study in most cases. Inner connectivity to ones spirituality is a big motivator and one thing that is said to be a direct result of astral projections. Profound insights to one’s spiritual nature and a stronger connection to your own spiritual essence is known to create a kind of kinship with the world around you. According to a phenomenology study by Dr. Stuart Twemlow, 55% of participants in his study referred to their out-of-body experience as a spiritual experience, and a definitive connection to something far greater then themselves.

No matter your reason for interest, obtaining an authoritative bit of documentation and instruction is highly recommended, there is no serious risk into attempting to astral project but it is a learned ability which is only accomplished through practice.
